I used to do some theater. It’s one of the few interests of mine that I’ve stuck with over the years.
I’d considered doing voice acting off and on as a way to continue acting without them needing my less-than-Hollywood appearance, which (in theory at least) makes casting me in roles a much easier possibility (don’t pop my bubble).
Not too long ago, I was speaking with a co-worker and he suggested that I voice children’s read-along books, as a side income, and I may, as that is after all, voice acting, but I wanted to get started.
So I created unclejeffreads.com as a separate website where I’d put public domain stories with pictures and an audio recording of myself reading the books as if I were reading to young children.
Being a father myself, there was something about reading to my children that I cannot quite put my finger on, but it’s one of the aspects of early fatherhood that I miss.
Then I dragged my heels on doing anything with it until recently and part of that was because I absolutely dread the idea of having to maintain two websites.
I’m no stranger to maintaining multiple websites, and I assure you, I know I don’t want to again at this point in my life.
So I moved it here as a menu item and I put a redirect in at the domain so nothing got lost.
If that didn’t make sense to you, that’s okay. Basically, what it means is that if you try to go to unclejeffreads.com it will take you to the Uncle Jeff Reads section here at jeffwood.com.
I may at some point move it back to a separate website, but I’d rather have just one for now.
All that to say, although I did mention it to some people, I took the public domain story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, put it on here, and recorded myself reading it.
I have a second candidate in mind, but it will have to wait until I’m done being sick.
