My Lost Screenplay and a Memory of a Friend

Way back in the early 2000s, like 2004-ish maybe, give or take, I wrote a screenplay. It was a full 90 minutes of mostly unrelated scenes with me as the host, appearing in-between scenes, explaining the scenes.

It was created with the idea of incorporating four friends from the role playing group that I was in way back then, with one of them, Richard, serving as both the cameraman and co-host. It also had scenes written with other, specific people in mind, many of whom I’ve since lost touch with.

The scenes and special effects were well within the abilities of people I was in contact with at the time. They certainly wouldn’t be cutting edge, but they would be good enough.

Anyway, not terribly long after I wrote it, I lost it in a hard drive crash and I pretty much gave it up on it and moved on with my life.

Richard passed away a couple of years ago.

I’ve thought a lot about that movie since.

So I decided to honor his memory, satisfy my annoyance at having lost one of the few projects I actually completed, and rewrite the movie.

Some of the scenes have been lost to the fog of memory, which doesn’t matter in the sense that the movie is a bunch of unrelated scenes, but I’m thinking about adding some scenes based on the real-life stories of the group I was in.

I may not, I haven’t completely decided yet.

But, I’ve started writing the script. As a matter of fact, I was working on it when I decided I should write this blog post as I’m trying to be consistent with writing a weekly blog post.

I don’t know if I’ll ever do anything more with the screenplay than share it with the group, if they want it.

But actually making the film isn’t really the point.

What’s been on your mind that maybe you should start, finish, or redo?
