I had quite the revelation deleting things from my phone.

One of the things I do, is share memes on Facebook and Instagram (through Facebook).
I often save a meme to my phone and then upload it, rather than sharing it outright, because if I upload it, it will go to both Facebook and Instagram whereas if I just share it, it will only go to Facebook.
But I’m very bad at deleting those memes from my phone’s photos folder when I’m done. So I have tons and tons of photos and memes on my phone. And I finally decided to get rid of the memes.
I decided it would be easiest to keep track if I went through the albums year by year and deleted all the memes in a single year at a time. This way I wouldn’t lose my place as I wasn’t going to do it all in one sitting.
What I found was rather sobering.
I went clear back to the beginning of when I started having a smartphone that I kept pictures on, 2014 to be exact.
As I started deleting, it didn’t take hardly any time at all to get through two or three years of photos.
Then, it started taking longer. A lot longer.
I began to realize that I started having almost as many memes in a year as I did actual photos.
And then, one year, there were more memes than photos.
And the next year, the memes outnumbered the photos even more.
I just finished 2022, and it took a very long time to go through and delete the memes.
It’s as if that progression of my life, from mostly photos I took with a few memes I saved, to very few photos I took and a lot of memes I saved.
Now don’t get me wrong, I still took a lot of photos, but not as many as I was and the amount of memes has increased expotentially.
And that seems to be a sad and very telling statistic of the state of my social life.
More social media than social.
What about you?
What does your camera roll say about your life?
Hooray! I’m all for downsizing whether it be a spare room, a file drawer, downloads (which I just did this week), or memes and photos (which I hardly do). In fact, what is a meme? I have had it explained, but I forget. It’s something beyond my personal experience. So much seems to be that way as the 21st century continues its march.
A meme is basically a picture, usually with words, but not always. Like a poster you might hang on a wall. The photo in the post is actually a meme.
