Ever since my near-fatal car accident, I am regularly asked, especially at work, some variation of “how long until you’re back to 100%?”
Well, honestly, I may never be 100% again.
Some of the injuries are taking a very very long time to heal, some others will only heal if I get additional surgeries, and others… well… others will never heal. That’s the reality.
Even now, over seven months later, whenever I sneeze or cough, I still get sharp pains where my incisions were. I dread the day should I ever vomit; I imagine the pain will be excruciating.
And then there’s the psychological aspects to heal from as well. Those are taking much longer.
One day this week, my anxiety caused me to leave for work 45 minutes early because on the morning prior, some jerkwad decided to be aggressive with his car.
Someone at church wondered if it’s a form of PTSD.
I suppose that it is very similar in some regards.
When will I heal?
The actual answer is: I don’t know, but it won’t be for a very long time.
